Project: Tracking Down the Pig from the Snort IDS Article

I used to have a version of the Snort pig mascot myself, but unfortunately, I can’t seem to locate it anymore. It’s possible it was accidentally donated or given away during a move or cleanup. Now, I’m on a mission to find another. I got one directly from Cisco at a conference and I want it back. I am on a mission.

Goal

To locate and identify the pig mascot shown in the Snort IDS tutorial article on Null Byte — a quirky symbol tied to the popular open-source intrusion detection system.

What I’m Looking For

People to:

  • Help find the original source or history of the pig image
  • Share any similar Snort-related mascots, logos, or artwork
  • Assist in tracing the image’s origin or any associated stories
  • Help locate existing versions or memorabilia featuring the pig

Why It Matters

The pig mascot represents a fun, cultural artifact within the cybersecurity community, especially among Snort users and open-source enthusiasts. Discovering its origin and whereabouts can deepen appreciation of Snort’s legacy and community identity.

How You Can Help

  • Search archives, forums, or communities for the pig image source
  • Share leads or references to Snort branding and mascot history
  • Comment if you recognize the pig or have anecdotes related to it
